Allergens

At McDonald's Canada, we have a long-standing commitment to food safety. Not only are we committed to developing products, where possible, that do not include common allergens, but we also believe in providing consumers with the necessary information to make informed choices.

McDonald's is a member of the Canadian Restaurant and Foodservices Association's (CRFA) Allergy Aware program: a national initiative developed to raise consumer awareness of the special needs of people with food allergies. McDonald's displays the Allergy Aware symbol on the ingredient information available in our restaurants.

Based on increasing concerns about allergies, McDonald's introduced pre-packaged peanuts in all its restaurants to avoid the risk of cross-contamination.

During the development phase of the McFlurry® dessert, McDonald's rejected any combination of ingredients that included nuts, another serious allergen.

Precautionary Statement - Ciabatta Buns

Please be advised that Ciabatta buns carry the following precautionary statement: May contain traces of tree nuts and sesame seeds.

As a member of the Allergy Aware program, McDonald's understands how critical it is to provide customers with as much information about our food as possible. Our ciabatta buns are produced in a facility where other products that contain tree nuts are also made. Segregation protocols are followed to prevent our products from coming into contact with any others. We are taking extra precaution because the safety of our customers is priority number one. Our other buns are made in different facilities that don't handle nuts.

Precautionary Statement Now On McDonaldland Cookie Packaging

Please be advised that McDonaldland cookies now carry the following precautionary statement: May contain traces of peanut and tree nuts.

While there has been no change to the ingredients contained in this product, McDonaldland cookies are produced by the Keebler Foods Company in a facility where peanut products are also manufactured. Despite an extensive quality control program in place to avoid cross-contamination, the cookies cannot be guaranteed as a nut-free product. Given the severity of food allergies, Keebler made a proactive decision to include a precautionary statement on the cookie packaging.

The use of such precautionary statements is voluntary and is not required by Canadian law.
