Your local McDonald's can be a tremendous community partner.

Approximately 65 per cent of McDonald's restaurants in Canada are independently owned and operated. Odds are your local franchisee may be involved in any one of the following programs supporting local schools, senior citizens' groups, safety awareness campaigns, literacy and scholarship programs, environmental efforts and athletic teams.

You'll be amazed to learn the impact McDonald's franchisees have on local sports efforts - McDonald's restaurants across Canada sponsor a wide variety of local sports teams, totaling an annual investment of approximately $7 million in support and in-kind gifts.

McHappy Day is a national fundraiser during which McDonald's restaurants across Canada join together with community members, employees, customers and special guests to raise money to help children in need across Canada. Click here to learn more about McHappy Day.

In June 2003, participating McDonald's restaurants in Ontario announced its participation in the Ontario Provincial Police's Kids Comfort Program. This special program supplies O.P.P. officers with teddy bears that they can offer to children who have been involved in traumatic situations, such as motor vehicle collisions, personal injury, domestic disturbances, violence or abuse. Each year, McDonald's Canada restaurants supply approximately 2,000 Kids Comfort Kits to O.P.P. cruisers across the province.

McDonald's is there when we're needed. A $25,000 donation by McDonald's franchisees in Newfoundland to the Badger Relief Fund provided support for victims of the floods that hit Badger, Nfld. In February 2003, local franchisees were also involved in fundraising activities to help families affected by the flood, donating bottled water and providing free meals.

In every community across Canada where we do business, our restaurants, more than 1,400 of them, are vital engines in each neighbourhood we serve. Most people know McDonald's for our great food and fast, friendly service. However, what they don't see is that McDonald's restaurants represent a major economic presence in local markets, helping support the lives of the people who live, work and shop there.

Through the course of our daily business operations we provide countless benefits, not only to our many customers and our more than 77,000 employees, but to the surrounding community in general, everyday. McDonald's provides employment and career opportunities, support for charitable organizations and tax revenues for public services. Each McDonald's restaurant represents between 50 and 100 jobs to a community.

Visit your local McDonald's restaurant and check out their Community Board to learn what programs your restaurant is supporting.
