Recycle
At McDonald's Canada, we are committed to using recycled materials wherever possible in the construction, equipping and operations
of our restaurants. McDonald's is the largest user of recycled paper in our industry- trayliners, fry boxes, serviettes, carry out
bags and drink holders are just some of the items in our restaurants that contain recycled materials.
When waste audits identified that the largest proportion of our restaurant waste was being generated behind the counter, McDonald's
instituted a corrugated cardboard recycling program in many restaurants across the country, a quick service industry first. More
than 95 per cent of the cardboard used behind the counter at McDonald's is recycled.
McDonald's has undertaken a number of composting pilot programs over the past years in an effort to divert waste from landfill. With
our programs, food waste is converted to compost material and energy.
